RN to BSN Can Lead to a Job in the Army Nurse Corps

The Nurse Corps Program pays associate degree nurses to earn a BSN

If you have always wanted to serve your country, do so as a medical professional, one of the most vital positions in the U.S. Armed Forces. As an RN, you can join the Army Nurse Corps as a commissioned officer, receive a salary and also get paid to earn your Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

About the Corps

The Army Nurse Corps includes more than 11,000 men and women who provide quality healthcare for military personnel, their families and military retirees worldwide. U.S. Army nurses are highly trained leaders in healthcare, and many reach top positions as clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, nurse anesthetists and nursing managers, among others.

As part of the Army Nurse Corps enlisted commissioning program, active duty enlisted soldiers can attend college full-time to complete a BSN. The Army tuition reimbursement program provides

  • Up to $9,000 per academic year for tuition
  • Up to $1,000 per academic year for books
  • Full military nursing salary and allowances, including eligibility for promotions

With the Reserve Nurse Corps Program, nurses with an associate degree currently enrolled in an accredited BSN program receive a monthly stipend of more than $2,000. Participants must serve in the Army Reserve one year for each six months or less of financial assistance.

Candidates for the Army Nurse Corps must be U.S. citizens between 21-41 years of age at date of commission and able to complete a BSN degree within 24 calendar months of enrollment. For other eligibility requirements, visit the Army Nurse Corps healthcare education webpage.

The RN to BSN online program

Students in a virtual RN to BSN program receive specialized training in leadership, management, communication, critical thinking, professional ethics and evidence-based nursing practice. In addition to clinical instruction, your coursework also includes classes in nursing research and philosophy as well as technology-based health applications. Classes are flexible, 100 percent online and can conveniently fit between your work and family commitments. You can study anytime, anywhere with a computer and trusted internet connection and earn a BSN in about 15 months.

Enrolling in an RN to BSN online program is one way to a medical career in the Army Nurse Corps.
